Maureen Shankman is an award-winning middle school specialist. She has been teaching in secondary sciences since 1997 and is an active proponent for inquiry-based science education. She is the science fair director and science curriculum specialist for the Alachua County Public Schools in Florida. There she works in a variety of ways and programs to help students experience real-life science and to help teachers learn how to bring hands-on, real-life science and engineering experiences to their students. In addition, Maureen focuses on at-risk students and has developed a pilot program for students “stuck” in the middle.
Maureen offers her expertise to the North East Florida Educational Consortium as Program Development and Training Specialist in Science. She has been chairperson for the board of directors of the Florida League of Middle Schools and currently serves as a regional director for that organization.
She is married with two daughters and lives in Gainesville, Florida.
